Clinton Garden Club at a Glance
A Bit of Background
Since its founding in 1934, the Clinton Garden Club has been an active participant in community affairs. Early projects included plantings at the Kirkland Town Library and the village green. For 85 years, the club has tended the shrubs and flowers as well as the colorful planters decorating the village sidewalks. Over the years, the club has staged numerous events at many different venues: flower shows, garden tours, bus trips and lectures. Currently, the club’s projects include Garden Therapy at the Lutheran Home, provision of a NYSDEC student scholarship, an environmental scholarship at Clinton High School and more. The popular “Plants Plus” sale, held annually, features perennials dug from members’ gardens as well as annuals, planted baskets, decorative items and baked goods. Proceeds from this sale support the work done by the club members. Federated with the National Garden Clubs, Inc., the club also belongs to District Five of the New York State Garden Clubs and the Friends of Root Glen.
